Ginger, Switchel

Switchel

Move over Kombucha, and enjoy Switchel! This fermented drink is so easy to make at home and there are so many variations of this recipe. I love to enjoy it first thing in the morning. It’s great to detoxify and rev up that metabolism. It also makes an amazing post workout electrolyte drink. You can even mix it with some sparkling water to create a spritzer to sip on hot days. Switchel has a spicy taste from the ginger and lots of tang from the apple cider vinegar and lemon.

Combine all the ingredients into a large mason jar or pitcher. Stir and let it sit in the fridge for a few hours before drinking.

Ginger, Switchel

Here’s why this is an amazing healthy beverage to add to your routine.

APPLE CIDER VINEGAR

Good source of enzymes and probiotics from ‘the mother’ which is a colony of healthy bacteria that helps make the vinegar through a secondary fermentation process. There are so many benefits from drinking apple cider vinegar, such as regulating blood sugar levels, supporting a healthy gut, weight loss and reducing blood pressure. It is also rich in minerals like calcium, magnesium, and potassium, which is why it makes a great electrolyte drink.

MAPLE SYRUP OR HONEY

Natural source of sugar that is rich in minerals. Honey also has enzymes and antiviral properties.

GINGER

Powerful anti-inflammatory and antioxidant. Great for supporting digestion.

LEMON JUICE AND LEMON PEEL

Great source of vitamin C and helps detoxify the body. Lemon peel is also great for keeping your immune system strong.

Enjoy!
