Green Bliss Detox Blender Juice
According to Traditional Chinese Medicine, spring is one of the best times to detoxify the body. Each of the seasons correspond to a different process and spring is known for cleansing. That means cleansing your body, home and state of mind! For some tips on making some clean and green house cleaning product check out the blog here.
One great way to gently detox your body is by making a green juice full of detoxifying foods
A note on juicing.
Be careful of the ratio of fruit to vegetables. Juices consumed regularly or as meals with high sugar fruits and vegetables can lead to blood sugar imbalances. That’s why when I do make a juice, I like to have just one fruit (besides limes and lemons). That being said I don’t juice everyday, I like to mix it up and alternate between starting my day with a juice, herbal tea, smoothie, or lemon water. I personally don’t substitute juice for a meal. I prefer to enjoy it when I start my day or in between meals. I don’t recommend doing a juice cleanse unless you know your body can handle it. That means your blood sugar is stable, it doesn’t interact with any medications, your elimination channels are working optimally to avoid re-intoxication and you are not in a nutrient-depleted state.
Back to the juice. This juice has cucumber, pear, kale, lemon, lime, and cilantro. I also added in some ginger because I am obsessed with it, but this is optional. Here is why I chose these ingredients.
Cucumber: This vegetable is approximately 96% water which makes it a great addition to the juice to keep you hydrated and help you flush out the toxins.
Pear: This is added to provide a bit of sweetness but pears are full of nutrients and antioxidants, specifically glutathione which is a main antioxidant that aids in detoxification.
Kale: This one is not a household stranger anymore. It is a natural detoxifier to help eliminate toxins from your body. One of the main components that helps cellular detoxification is isothiocyanates that are made from glucosinolates.
Cilantro: It is packed with phytonutrients. It also high in vitamin K and can aid in chelation of heavy metals from your body.
Lemon: It is great to stimulate your digestive juices and to get everything moving through your body. Citric acid found in lemon helps support the liver and its ability to detoxify. Lime has similar properties and adds a nice addition or substitution to the juice. I like to also add a drop of doTERRA lemon essential oil to boost lemon’s detoxifying benefits.
Since I don’t have a juicer I use my Blendtec with a bit of water. It also makes a less intense tasting juice. If you have a juicer you can double this recipe since you won’t be adding any water. Try and use organic when possible to really reduce the toxins and increase the benefits.
